Rodrigo Baggio – High Tech Favelas

ONGs (NGOs) are quite popular in Brazil or any 3rd world country for that matter. Its a situation where if you help becomes just as important as how you help. Rodrigo Baggio, CEO of the NGO called CDI (Committee for Democracy in Information Technology) is a guy that knows what he’s doing and why. Founded in 1995, CDI has spread throughout the country, starting in Santa Marta (a large Rio slum), it is now found in 763 franchised schools in Brazil. Over 600,000 people have been certified so far through their IT course.

Their schools are set up in conjunction with local community outfits. Once the space is made available, CDI furnishes the schools with free computers, which in turn are donated by people all over the world. The end result is that the socially and digitally excluded feel included and thats why Mr. Baggio is being highlighted.
